Procedure for deep conditioning

Heat styling tools, dyes, and chemical strengtheners, along with exposure to the sun and cold air, can dry out and damage hair. It's best to restore moisture and body to your hair with a good deep conditioning treatment.

Choose a product

There are many products on the market, and you should choose one that is custom-made for your exact needs.

If you have fine hair, look for products that are described as "lightweight."Products made with heavy oils will weigh down your hair.

Apply the deep conditioning product

Apply the conditioner directly to your scalp. Smooth it from your roots to your hair shaft. Pay special attention to the tips, which tend to be drier than the rest of your hair. If necessary, use a wide-toothed comb to distribute the product.

Cover the head with a plastic cap

Deep conditioning treatments require several hours and need to reach the center of each strand of hair. Keep the conditioner in place by covering your head with a plastic cap.

Avoid using materials other than plastic, as fabrics can absorb the product.

Apply heat

After applying conditioner, apply heat with a blow-dryer; it will be more easily absorbed into your hair.  Make sure the hair dryer isn't too hot, as you don't want to melt the plastic cap.

Rinse out the product

Remove the shower cap and rinse your hair with cool water, which will tighten the hair shaft and make it shiny. After washing, gently towel dry your hair, then let it air dry and style it.
